Theft Reporting Policy

I. OBJECTIVE It is the policy of The Community Center to document, investigate, and if necessary, report incidents of thefts to the appropriate authorities. This policy will outline the basic procedure The Community Center will take when a theft is reported to an employee.

II. Definitions A. Theft means an individual(s) committing the act of taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive a member, guest or The Community Center

III. Responsibilities Community Center members have the right to use Community Center lockers to store personal property or items while they are using the facility. Community Center provides members the option of renting lockers if they would like to store items on a permanent basis.

A. Community Center has the responsibility to

1. Provide functional and proper operating lockers for members and guest to store and secure personal property

2. Document each reported incident of theft

3. Report incident to local authorities by call 256-7531

4. Fully cooperate with the investigation of any incidents of theft that are reported to authorities

B. Community Center members and guests have the responsibility to:

1.  Use a proper operating lock in order to secure their belongings to prevent theft.

2. Use discretion in bringing to The Community Center items of personal property

3. Report damage or theft of personal property to The Community Center front desk

4. Respect the property of others as well as the property of The Community Center

5. Remove all personal items from a locker after use or once the locker rental period expires. Community Center isn’t responsible for theft or loss of any materials that are left in the locker

IV. Reporting Procedures The Community Center, in its best efforts, will use a uniform approach for reporting theft. This approach will include completion of a standardized form, citing the specifics of the incident, estimates or actual dollar amount involved, or description of personal property that is missing. Once an incident of theft is reported The Community Center will:

1. Document incident of theft on a standardized form and investigate incident in our best efforts

2. Report the incident to the local authorities by calling 256-7531

3. Supply any information that will assist in the investigation.

V. Disciplinary Action Upon the conviction, adjudication, admission or determination of theft by a member or guest The Community Center reserves the right to take disciplinary action, which is outlined in Community Center policy 203, Revocation of Membership or legal action.
