The
current Madison outdoor pool is over 50 years old and is in
need of replacement. An aquatic committee made up of city
personnel and Madison residents has researched the cost of
renovating or build a new pool.
On August 15th, 2006 the
committee made a recommendation to the Madison Park &
Recreation Board to build a new outdoor pool at Westside
Park. The new outdoor pool would cost approximately 2.5
million dollars. The motion was passed by the Park &
Recreation board.
On August 21st, 2006 the
aquatics task force presented the recommendation to the City
Commissioners. After considerable discussion, the motion was
made by Commissioner Nordberg to acknowledge receipt of the
recommendation of the Aquatics Committee and Park Board that
the City of Madison construct a new swimming pool/aquatics
center at Westside Park at a cost of $1.5 to $2.5 million to
be completed by 2008, and request that the task force
solicit specific proposals on the cost and design of a new
aquatics center, second by Commissioner Bohl. Motion carried
unanimously.
With the assistance of Banner
Engineering and Water Technologies the aquatics committee
has constructed a pool that would replace the current
outdoor pool. Please click the link below for a detailed
